In a nutshell this books makes the statement that what used to be safe is no safe no longer. In his opinion too many organisations are trying to mimic the products of others in their field which means less innovation. His point is that copying another in this way is not a sure fire way to success but only by doing different in things in different ways can a business realise true success.

His points are valid (to an extent) and his marketing of the book is testament to the success of his ideas to some degree. However he does have some sort of grudge against other forms of marketing – which is odd because they work. Excellent marketing talks to customers in a way that appeals to them and informs them that a product exists. And helps pre-sell them to some degree or another.

The examples could do with being updated as well as some are a little old to be relevant, in all honesty. But it is an enjoyable read and even though the basic concepts aren't really new, it does give the reader an opportunity to sit back and think again about what they're doing with their business or in their marketing and product development.
