American Psycho takes a somewhat scary satirical look into the life of Patrick Bateman, whose psychotic tendencies are becoming increasingly erratic. It’s based around the “get rich quick” and Yuppie era that was the 1980’s and set around the large Wall Street based company where Bateman works.
The detail that Ellis gives to the characters and their interaction with the world is what hooks you into the book. The style also adds to the feeling that you’re there and seeing the world through a psycho’s eyes.
This is an incredibly well written and important book. However, if you are easily disturbed then I would stay away, as the graphic explanations that accompany Bateman’s psychotic outbursts will ruin your enjoyment.
